New York Sour
Happy Cocktail Thursday everyone! What is Cocktail Thursday? Cocktail Thursday is something my husband established long before kids. It is essentially our designated date night once a week. No matter the chaos the week brings, we always reserve Thursdays to reconnect with each other. No TV allowed and no cooking allowed. We either go out on a real date or order take-out, which is 95% of the time now with 2 kids. If we stay in, I try to make us cocktails. Now I am a wine lover to the core so 90% of the time I am just pouring myself a big, bold Cab but come Thursday, I really love to make something my husband and I can cheers with. And now, I hope that I am able to create something that you can cheers with.
Enjoy!
Recipe
Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup simple syrup*
1/2 cup bourbon
Dry medium to full bodied wine
* to make simple syrup bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once boiling bring down to a simmer and add 1 cup of sugar. Stir until combined. Let cool and store in an airtight container for 3 months.
To make the New York Sour:
In a cocktail shaker add ice, lemon juice, simple syrup and bourbon and shake well.
In a rocks glass add ice and then fill the glass half way with the bourbon mixture.
Carefully top with red wine.
Helpful tip: Pour the wine down the back side of a spoon and into the glass to prevent the wine from mixing with the sour. Do no mix. This drink is not only delicious but it is so pretty too! This will definitely impress any cocktail lover.
Pair it with my Spicy Sausage and Honey Pizza and Italian Squash Carpaccio and you have yourself a party.
