Sunset Sangria

This drink was inspired by one of my favorite places to grab a drink (and haystack fries) in the southbay, Simmzy’s. They have a white sangria that is so good but it’s really the variations of it that makes it memorable. My favorite variation is the white sangria with a red wine topper. The dryness of the red wine balances the sweet, tartness of the sangria and it’s pretty much everything! This recipe is not only delicious but so so pretty, so naturally, it’s the perfect drink to end the summer with.

Entertaining Tips:

  1. The Sangria tastes best when all the flavors get a chance to know each other so make this 3-4 hours before serving. That way it’s ready to go when your guests arrive too.

  2. Create a little “cocktail making” space and let people build their own cocktail. That way people can make it the way they prefer. Add a bottle of Prosecco and your guests can make it a little bubbly.

Recipe: makes 6 servings

Ingredients:

1 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio

1/2 cup brandy. I used Strawberry Brandy from Ventura Spirits. *Note - this is not a sweet brandy

1/4 cup Saint Germaine

2 yellow peaches, sliced

2 white peaches, slice

1 cup of green grapes, sliced in half

1 bottle of dry red wine. I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon

To make:

In a large pitcher, combine white wine, brandy, Saint Germaine, peaches, and grapes. Stir together and let all the flavors merry for at least 3 hours.

Fill glasses with ice and pour white sangria mixture about 3/4 way full.

Using the back of the spoon, slowly pour the red wine over the back of the spoon and into the glass over the sangria mixture. Using the spoon will help the red wine sit on top of the sangria. Don’t stress if it mixes a bit, it may not look as pretty but will taste just as good.

Serve and enjoy!
