French Toast Sticks with Blood Orange Glaze

Who doesn’t like French toast? Seriously, it’s bread soaked in cream, eggs, and sugar and then fried. It’s crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Make it into a dip-able stick form and I’m in. This recipe uses a perfectly light and buttery brioche loaf and corn flakes for an added crunch. Combined with the sweet tartness of the blood orange glaze, this is is the best winter breakfast! These are so good I encourage you to make extra because I guarantee you’ll end up eating half of them as you’re cooking the rest.

Entertaining tips:

  1. You can make these the day before and store in the refrigerator over night. Reheat in the oven 325 degrees for 10 minutes to warm up while keeping them crisp!

  2. Make the glaze the day before. Store in the refrigerator and just warm in the microwave before serving.

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine maple syrup, orange juice, powder sugar, cardamon, and cinnamon. Whisk together to create a glaze. Set aside.

  2. Slice brioche into 1” wide sticks

  3. In a shallow bowl, add milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Whisk to combine

  4. In a second shallow bowl, combine cornflakes and 1 Tbsp sugar. Mix to combine.

  5. Set a baking sheet next to your bowls for you to put the sticks as you’re assembling them

  6. Coat the brioche sticks in the milk mixture followed by the cornflake mixture. Set on baking sheet and continue to coat all the sticks.

  7. Once bread sticks are coated, heat a large fry pan over medium low heat and add the butter.

  8. Once butter is melted, add the sticks in the pan and fry on each side until golden. About 2 minutes/side. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.

  9. Continue frying the sticks until all sticks are cooked

  10. Drizzle 1-2 Tbsp glaze over sticks and serve extra glaze on the side.

  11. Enjoy!
