Earl Green

Absinthe is truly one of my favorite spirits to work with. It has such a distinct anise flavor that I personally love. My husband and I went to Paris for our honeymoon and at the top of my list was to go to Vert d’Absinthe to get a legit bottle of absinthe. I was really hoping to do a tasting but apparently that’s not a thing - my California wine tasting side was showing ;) Anyways, ever since then I’ve loved any and every cocktail with absinthe.

If you’ve never had absinthe and are a little unsure, this is the cocktail to try. There is a small amount of the spirit in this drink so the anise flavor is barely there. Also, the chances of you seeing green fairies from this are pretty low ;)

A couple things about absinthe, this is a spirit that will last you a long time. As much as I love it, I bought my bottle in Paris 6 years ago and still have it! A little goes a long way and it can last for a long time and even continue to age if stored properly. That being said, make sure you get a good bottle. You can get a good bottle for under $70. If you have a Total Wine or another specialty liquor store, they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.

All this being said I hope you love this cocktail and if you do buy a bottle, I have more ways for you to use your new spirit coming!

INGREDIENTS:

6 oz Cold Earl Grey Tea

2 oz St Germain Elderflower Liqueur

1/2 oz absinthe

1 oz lemon juice

Champagne or Sparkling Wine of choice

Directions:

  1. Add the absinthe to a cocktail glass. Swirl around so that the absinthe coats the entire glass. Then pour the remaining absinthe into the 2nd cocktail glass and repeat. You should have very little liquid left in the glasses. Divide what is left into both glasses.

  2. In a cocktail shaker, add ice, add earl grey, St Germain, and lemon juice. Shake to chill and combine.

  3. Divide mix into the 2 glasses.

  4. Top with champagne.

  5. Cheers!
