Blood Orange Beer

Happy Cocktail Thursday! Let’s talk beer. You can’t have a Super Bowl party without having beer. But here’s the deal… not every one likes beer. I love beer, but I also very rarely want a beer. I gravitate to wine or a spritz on a warm California day.

I blame my lack of interest in beer, mostly, on my trip to Belgium. Guys, the beer there is GOOD! Like insanely good. I am sure most of you are not surprised seeing as it’s Belgium but I sort of was. No joke, beer was cheaper than water at restaurants. Yes, we had to pay for water because tap water didn’t really exist in a restaurant. The beer was SO good and cheap though, why even buy water?! Ok, that answer is obvious but still.

There was one beer in particular that ruined any old beer for me. And the worst part??? I don’t even know what it was! It was some sort of blonde that was so smooth, mild and creamy you would have thought it was made of cream. I have since been on a hunt to find a similar beer and have had zero success. By the way, this trip to Belgium was over 5 years ago. That is a long time to be on a beer hunt. So, if you have any recommendations please leave a comment!

Anyways…Seeing that this menu is for the Super Bowl I felt the need to create a cocktail with beer, but also was not so beer-ish that the non-beer lover would also enjoy it. So, this cocktail was born. The sweetness and slight tartness of the blood orange complements the wheat beer perfectly so that it tastes more like a spritz than beer. This drink is a crowd pleaser and super easy. Bonus - you can make a pitcher of the blood orange mixture so everyone can make their own. Pair with my Pimento Cheese Sliders with Fried Jalapeños and my Sweet and Spicy Bonelesss Buffalo Bites for the perfect menu.
